What is Sibling Preference?

Siblings of students drawn from the random public lottery will also be placed depending upon space available at the given grade level during the lottery process. For example, if a students name is chosen during the lottery and the student has siblings, those siblings will be placed, provided space is available at the given grade level, before another name is drawn. The remaining names will be placed on a waiting list based on the order drawn from the random public lottery (at each grade level). The waiting list will expire at the end of each school year.

How does the Lottery work?

Following the Open Enrollment period each year, applications will be counted to determine whether any grade level has received more applications than availability. In the event that this happens, the school will hold a random public lottery to determine enrollment for the impacted grade levels, with the exception of existing students who are guaranteed enrollment in the following school year.

  • The lottery will take place on a given published date;
  • OPA will comply with all applicable state and federal laws and with the Chartering Authority policy as it relates to the oversight of charter schools;
  • The lottery shall draw names from a general pool of ballots;
  • A representative of the Academy shall draw the ballots;
  • Siblings of students drawn from the random public lottery will be placed depending upon space available at the given grade level during the lottery process; and
  • The drawing shall continue until all names are drawn. Those individuals whose names are drawn after all spaces have been filled will be placed on the waiting list in the order drawn, except if the preferences described above require otherwise.
What can I bring as Proof of Residency/Birthdate?

Proof of Residency includes gas, electric, or water bill (unacceptable forms include cell phone, telephone, cable, storage unit, or mortgage statement). Proof of Student Birthdate includes a birth certificate or passport.

Does my child have a better opportunity to be chosen for enrollment the earlier we apply during the open enrollment period?

No. Entry into Oxford’s on-campus program is not on a first come, first serve basis. Families have 30 days to complete the online enrollment form during Open Enrollment. Open Enrollment for the 2017-18 school year will take place beginning January 9-February 7, 2017. All online applications submitted during the open enrollment period for eligible enrollees will be entered into the lottery.

Are OPA students required to wear school uniforms?

Yes. Our uniform policy and guidelines can be found here.

Does OPA provide bus transportation?

No. Parents of students at OPA are responsible for their child’s transportation to and from the school site.

Does Oxford Preparatory Academy charge tuition?

No. Oxford Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school.

How do I enroll my child at Oxford Preparatory Academy?

Please visit our admissions website for a detailed explanation of our admissions and enrollment process.

Can my child join the waiting list if we missed Open Enrollment?

Yes! Families are always welcome to contact our office to request to be placed on the waiting list for the current academic year. During Open Enrollment, the waiting list is renewed based on the results of our random public lottery.

By having a strong waiting list, OPA can prove that our school of choice is desired within our community and we will be better able to continue to help more students.

When is Open Enrollment?

Oxford Preparatory Academy will hold a 30-day Open Enrollment January 9, 2017-February 7th, 2017 for the 2017-2018 school year. Please sign up for our electronic email updates to be notified of our Parent Information Meetings and enrollment dates.
