Net week is spring break. While we do not ave any zoom sessions and you don't have any assigned work, I wanted to provide you with an opportunity to still get some math practice in and earn some extra points if you would like!

Attached you will find a document with two activities where you can earn some math extra credit. The instructions are on the document.

This is due by next Friday (4/10) if you would like to work on it. :-)

Ch. 1 Notes are posted here. I would either print OR copy them onto a piece of paper so you don't forget where they are located so you can use them for short responses or studying for an assessment later down the line.

- You may either print the worksheet and complete it and/or answer the questions on lined paper. If you use lined paper, you know my expectations for proper heading, rewriting the problem, and showing work.
- You will be turning in math worksheets upon return to class.

- You need to read the article and answer the questions on the attached google doc. Make sure your answers are in complete sentences and uses evidence from the text to support your answers.
- Make sure to turn in your article responses when finished.

Make sure you state your claim, use evidence to support the claim, and explain through scientific reasoning.

Unit Question:
Why do traits vary, and why do they vary even between parents and offspring as well as among offspring themselves?

Construct a detailed response to the question above for our unit on Traits and Reproduction. Your response should use key vocabulary and important concepts discussed throughout the unit in order to demonstrate what you learned.

Choose an animal and research how its digestive, circulatory, AND respiratory system are different from humans. How do they get the molecules they need into their cells in order to have enough energy?

Over the last few days, you and your classmates thought about arguments that could be made to answer this question:

How did the athlete increase his cellular respiration and improve his performance?

You have considered three claims:

Claim 1: Jordan Jones increased his cellular respiration and improved his performance by blood doping.

Claim 2: Jordan Jones increased his cellular respiration and improved his performance by changing his pre-race meal.

Claim 3: Jordan Jones increased his cellular respiration and improved his performance by training at a higher altitude.

Use the Evidence Cards, along with any other evidence from the unit you think is important, to support the claim that you think is strongest based on all the evidence that was available to you.

Write the claim you chose first, then complete the argument. In order to be convincing to someone who reads it, your argument should explain:

what cellular respiration is;

what blood doping or training at a higher altitude does to increase cellular respiration; and

why you think your claim is the best explanation for Jordan Jones’s improved performance.

Open Google Slides and create a one slide presentation demonstrating your research found on your selected topic as it is related to our Microbiome unit. Make sure there are words and pictures.

Please so not make the slide background a color as I do not want to use to much ink when they are printed.

Subclaim 2: Bacteria from a fecal transplant can help the patients body produce immune
cells that kill invading bacteria.

Subclaim 3: Bacteria from the fecal transplant can help the patients body produce mucus
that protects the gut from invading bacteria.

Write a scientific argument that supports the subclaim you have been working with. Make sure you use your reasoning tool and include in your response: claim, evidence, and reasoning.

Make sure you are using proper sentence starters to support your evidence and reasoning.
